ABOUT ME

MUMEE BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY SPECIALISING IN

NEWBORN | CHILDREN | MATERNITY & FAMILIES.

About me:

I am British born but definitely an Australian now too.

I moved to Australia 11 years ago with husband, we had never even come on holiday here. We fell in love with Sydney and decided to build a home here. We got married back in the UK so all our family & friends from home could attend. I became a first time mum in 2016, with no family support other than my amazing husband and friends.

Living in the Sutherland Shire enabled me to build friendships and engage with mothers groups, which I found gave me amazing support. I fell in love with my new job as a mother and 2017 I had our second child a beautiful baby girl. Two under 2 wasn’t easy but I got through the long days and nights. We decide to keep growing our family and in 2020 in the midst of Covid our second son joined our family. I am now expecting our forth baby and can’t wait to becoming a Mum all again. I am still learning everyday but my children teach me new things about myself day in day out.

You may notice that my family feature in some of my shoots, they’re my favourite little models to use to help perfect my skills and provide the best photography for you. Now I am living my dreams running my own business & being the best mum, wife, role model and photographer that I can be.

Why Photography?

I have had a love and passion for photography for over 15 years. I specialised in it during my Graphic Arts & Design Degree at Leeds Metropolitan university in the Uk. The rest of my photography skills are self taught on an on going basis.

I worked in retail from my teens, driven by my my love of fashion and all things visual, this led me to become a National Visual merchandising Manager for several years. At the height of my career I Worked for Christian Dior and had the opportunity to plan, style and set up beautiful stores and events around the world.

This combination of experience and new found mother’s guilt from returning to my full time retail job gave me the drive to go after my goals and chase my dreams. Pursuing my own business venture, whilst managing motherhood is a dream come true. I got the name from the way my son calls me Mumee and my last name from marriage changed to Bird so it was a perfect fit.

For me Photography is so special. It has the ability to make people smile, cry and allow the brain to remember a moment captured in time.

Whats different about my photography?

I keep going until I know I have captured the most beautiful moments and I will always go above and beyond for my clients.

Getting to know me…

1) What is your favourite colour? Blue its calming and goes with everything.

2) When you were younger what did you want to be when you grew up? I was obsessed with sharks and marine biology. I still have a love of all ocean creatures but I am scared of sharks!

3) What’s the most favourite place you have travelled to? This is a hard one I grew up in the U.K and moved to Australia I fell in love with it and made it my home with my Husband. If I had to pick, Paris has to be my favourite. I have been twice, once for a vacation & once for work training with Dior and it never loses its magical allure of the food, lights and style. It’s such an inspiring city. One where I first really started capturing photographs.

4) If I could get on a plane tomorrow & go anywhere where would you go? Easy the U.K to see all our family.

5) How many children do you want & why? I used to always just want just two. But now I have two and one of each I want as many as my body will allow. My husband would have a whole 5 a side soccer team!

6) What’s your go to movie? ohhh hard one I love movies I am a massive Tom Cruise fan! Plus I am an 80’s baby so. Risky business for the dance scene, Bob Seger‘s music makes it.

7) What’s your favourite food, savoury or desert? Savoury every time. Salty skinny fries are my weakness / favourite cheat meal.

8) What is your dream career? It used to be working in fashion. But having children changed all that for me. It was like someone turned on a lightbulb and I saw what I wanted to do. Being an amazing Mumee & photographer is only part of my dream, my vision is much bigger than that so join me on my journey and see how I grow.

I also worked as a newborn baby hearing screener for SWISH within NSW Health. This was my 1st part-time job back after my daughter was born and I started whilst I was considering setting up my business. I came across this role and thought it would be the perfect stepping stone. Handling and screening up to 15 babies in one shift on a busy day wasn’t always easy but it taught me valuable lessons in building relationships with parents in a very small window and soothing a newborn quickly, whilst recognising when they are hungry or when to take a step back.

This past role can also give you peace of mind if selecting a newborn shoot with me as a previous health worker I always ensure my vaccinations are up to date.
