Lost in digital translation? by Stephanie Rodrigues

One of the things that inspired me to start my own business was having my own babies and wanting to capture beautiful moments to cherish forever not only while they were little but as they continue to grow. I had limited equipment and like anyone turned to my handy phone to snap a moment or several 100. But what will I do with these photographs? Store them on my phone and look back on them every time a feel sentimental, yes of course who doesn’t?! But what about the ones I take on my professional digital camera, well my files are stored, organised, shared on social, WhatsApp and Web so there is a digital footprint.

So why print them? One of the things that inspires me to print my photographs is how a single photograph evokes a memory & a feeling wether that be happy, sad or joyful I want to commit to printing and display my most joyful memories each year because who doesn’t want photographs around your home or in a beautiful coffee table book that make you smile form the inside out. I am happy to say I have even filled the empty frame behind me in the blog photo with a photograph or my daughter.

But isn’t it extra expense to print? Of course but the similar amount you pay for more storage for your phone and isn’t it also an investment just like professional photography? I am guilty of taking thousands of photographs of my children but as their Mumee I am hardly ever in any of them, unless its a quick silly face selfie, plus is the quality good enough to print. I am slowly teaching my husband to use my camera but I myself would invest in professional photographs because natural unposed photographs as a family are few and far between.

I am flexible when it comes to technology and love adapting but I do find it worrying in this digital age that my images can easily get lost in digital translation in the trillion photographs that are taken.

So to print or not to print that is the question? Print.
